We may have been very tired by the end of it, maybe even sore, but we definitely had fun!
The day started off with bright sunshine but a bit of a chill in the air, expected for this time of year I suppose. After some of our party eventually took the left turn instead of the right turn at sally’s gap we were on our way up.
During the hike we took in some fantastic views of Lough Tay and Luggala estate. From Djouce peak itself we could see almost all of Wicklow mountain peaks and most of Dublin bay. We still had clear blue skies when we reached the peak but there was a fair amount of wind chill so we all had to stay wrapped up.
We then set off towards Djouce woods where we came across what looked like young dear carcass, it must not have survived that harsh winter we had. After taking in the wonderful view of Powerscourt we set back up towards Djouce peak to get back to the cars. This was the hard part of the hike. Despite the fact that we were very aware of every step, and the clouds had closed in, we still had smiles on our faces. We even started talking about where our next hike might be.
We finished up with a well deserved food stop overlooking Lough Tay and agreed that we all had a good day out. We are now looking forward to our next adventure.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has already donated and we will shortly be collect money pledged towards the deserving cause of Unicef’s Syria appeal. Remember you can still donate online here: http://www.unicef.ie/fundraising/syriahike.aspx
