So if you are like me, and don’t like being the same as everyone else, then this is the blog post for you! In this blog post we will attempt to show you how to change the background image of your login screen or lock screen, as opposed to your desktop image. Please note that these steps apply to Windows 7 and may not work on other operating systems.
Now there are a few steps involved in changing your background image but if you follow long carefully you should have no problems.
Warning: This process includes changing a registry entry so care needs to be taken!
Anyway, we first have to edit the computer registry in order to allow us change the background image. This is the bit where you need to be careful! To do so just hit the start button, and type regedit and hit return.
Once your registry editor is open, you need to right click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, and choose the Find option.
In the find dialog box, you then need to search for OEMBackground.
In the search results you will see the OEMBackground entry and you need to double click on this to change it’s properties.
Here you need to change the value data to 1 in order to allow us to change the login screen background image. Then click ok.
Okay so that is the difficult part done. Now we just need to create a folder to hold our new pretty background image.
So open a new Windows Explorer window and paste %windir%\system32\oobe into the address bar. In this folder (if they don’t already exist) you will need to create a folder called info, and in that folder create a folder called backgrounds.
Once you have created those two folders you can now paste in any jpeg image (provided it roughly matches your screen resolution) in the backgrounds folder and make sure to rename it backgroundDefault.jpg exactly.
And now you can have a pretty back ground image like below. To quickly check if it worked just press Ctrl, Alt, Delete to view your lock screen.
